MLK Day of Service

Ways you can get involved this MLK Day of Service.

MLK Day of Service

Today, we celebrate the life, work and values of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. While January 17th is a national holiday and many will not be working in their traditional environments, The Phoenix would like to encourage you to take some time to honor the message Rev. King left behind for generations to come. It’s important that, as a society, we take advantage of the resources available to us to learn and grow, while giving back to our communities in meaningful ways!

Please use the list below to help you and your family find valuable ways to honor Dr. King today and every day!

1. Use Catchafire to access flexible, virtual volunteer opportunities that exercise your skill sets and support causes you hold dear.

2. Read a book! Check out this MLK-Inspired reading list to learn more about Dr. King’s life and mission.

3. Connect with first-responder heroes. Operation Gratitude’s #VirtualVolunteerism campaign allows you the opportunity to support deployed troops, National Guardsmen, first responders, and emergency medical personnel on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

4. Check out this classroom resource guide, ideal for learning how to speak to kids of any age about the work of MLK.

5. Explore the Idealist website for volunteer tasks, COVID-19 efforts, and other locally-based volunteer opportunities.

No matter how you choose to honor MLK, remember that his work and values live on through the actions WE take for a better tomorrow!
